North Carolina Orthopaedic Clinic is pleased to offer knee replacement surgery for patients in Hillsborough, North Carolina, and surrounding areas. This procedure is often performed for individuals with knee pain caused by arthritis. We generally recommend that patients try to resolve their symptoms using nonsurgical techniques, but if you’ve been living with chronic knee pain for some time now and conservative treatments haven’t provided relief, you may want to consider a knee replacement.
Total Knee Replacement vs. Partial Knee Replacement
We offer two different types of knee replacements—total and partial—and the one that’s right for you will depend on what condition your knee is in. If only part of your knee joint is damaged, you may be eligible for a partial knee replacement. If the entire joint is damaged, on the other hand, you would likely require a total knee replacement.
During a partial knee replacement, the surgeon replaces only the damaged portion of the knee joint (usually the medial compartment, which is located on the inner side of the knee). A total knee replacement, on the other hand, involves replacing the entire knee joint. An experienced orthopedist will be able to let you know which type of surgery is better suited to your needs.
